Angela & Jonny’s Engagement Session at the State Arboretum of Virginia | VA Engagement Photographer

A Windy Start Turned Beautiful Evening | Virginia Engagement Session

There are some sessions that feel extra special from the very beginning—and Angela and Jonny’s engagement session at the State Arboretum of Virginia was exactly that.

We met on what started as a cold, windy afternoon, but as the session unfolded, the wind softened, the air settled, and the evening turned into something unexpectedly beautiful. It felt like the kind of calm that shows up right when you need it most—and it couldn’t have been more fitting for these two.

The Beauty of the State Arboretum of Virginia | Leesburg Engagement Location

The Arboretum itself never disappoints. Even in the cooler months, its rolling hills, tree-lined paths, and open landscapes create such a peaceful, romantic backdrop. There’s a quiet elegance to the property that allows each couple’s story to truly shine, and for Angela and Jonny, it was the perfect setting.

A Love Story Rooted in Friendship | Northern Virginia Couple

Their story is one of those that just feels meant to be.

Although they met while in Florida, they later discovered that both of their families are from Northern Virginia—such a small-world connection that feels like a gentle reminder that some stories are being written long before we even realize it.

What stood out most during their session was how natural they are together. Their relationship began as a friendship and has grown steadily over the last five years into something deeply rooted and genuine. The way Jonny looks at Angela says everything—you can see how much he adores her without a single word being spoken.

And the ring… Jonny designed a custom rose gold engagement ring for Angela, which feels so perfectly “them”—intentional, thoughtful, and full of meaning.

A Full-Circle Moment | From Dance Class to Engagement Photos

But for me, this session held an even deeper layer of significance.

I’ve known Angela since she was just a little girl in my preschool dance class. I still remember her performing as a tiny blue butterfly—full of joy, sweetness, and light. She continued dancing at Ashburn Academy of Dance from the age of four all the way through her high school graduation, and it has been such a gift to watch her grow into the incredible young woman she is today.

To now be the one capturing this season of her life isn’t something I take lightly—it feels like a true blessing to witness.

Upcoming Wedding at St. John’s Catholic Church & Raspberry Plains Manor

Angela and Jonny will be getting married this May at St. John’s Catholic Church in Leesburg, Virginia, followed by a reception at Raspberry Plains Manor—two absolutely stunning venues that will frame their wedding day beautifully. If their engagement session is any glimpse into what’s ahead, it’s going to be a day full of joy, meaning, and so much love.
